Social Action Tikkun Olam and Tzedakah

Social Action : Tikkun Olam and Tzedakah at TINT

The one thing that makes Temple Israel Ner Tamid stand out is its big heart. Social action  comes naturally to this congregation. "We’re the little congregation that could," said Peter Freimark, Chairman of the Social Action Committee. "We don’t wonder what has to be done…we just do it."

From blood drives to collections for area food banks, TINT is a leader in social action and community service. For over 25 years, we have prepared and served monthly hot meals at St. Aloysius Church in Glenville. Every Friday night,we make nearly 200 peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches that are handed out that night to homeless people on Cleveland streets.

Children are active participants in our social action programs. At TINT, we put into action what we teach. Getting involved is essential for "tikkun olam", repairing the world.

TINT sponsors a "Mitzvah of the Month" program to fill a special need. It could be toiletries, books, children's videos, warm gloves...whatever the need.TINT congregants and friends pitch in to meet it. The items collected are usually distributed locally to those in need. Although, sometimes items are designated ahead of time to go to a specific community outside of North East Ohio.

You can find out what we need this month or next and drop it off in the collection bin, outside the Temple's office.

Drop-offs from the public are always welcome. For more information about upcoming "Mitzvah of the Month" collections, please contact the temple office at 440-473-5120.
