Chesed Shel Emet "True Kindness"
In the fall of 2008 Temple Israel Ner Tamid began to participate in the annual Community Cemetery Preservation Project sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. Each year, several dozen congregation members travel to a local cemetery to help clean the the grounds around Jewish graves where there is no family to care for them. We weed, rake, prune and beautify the grounds, rain or shine.
From 2008 - 2010, we traveled to the Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery located in Brooklyn Ohio to perform this mitzvah. This year we worked in Cleveland's Harvard Cemetery.
How Can You Help? Be a volunteer.
We do this every fall. Let Rabbi Matt or Wendy know that you want to help, next year.
Anyone in sixth grade or older is welcome to help with this mitzvah. We also need drivers to carpool with those who do not have a ride. Please let Rabbi Matt know if you can carpool.
We usually meet on a Sunday, a few weeks after the High Holy Days, at 8:45 a.m. in the Temple's parking lot and expect to leave by 9:00 a.m. We plan to be back by noon.
If you have gardening tools please bring them. We always need the following:
- Rakes
- Shovels
- Clippers, Hedgers
- Gloves
- Wheelbarrows
- Heavy Duty Trash / Lawn Bags
- Leaf Blowers
- Hand Saws
This is a great opportunity for you to work together with your family and perform a selfless mitzvah.
